S Family Playing Horses

Barninedot SERENE (191071)

DOB: 11/09/2002

Sex: Mare

Colour: Black

Height: 15.3hh

Sire: NABINABAH ROCKAFELLA – HSH

Dam: Barninedot SERENITY

Serene is James’ most favourite mare of all time.  He has a particular soft spot for her as she was one of the first horses he brought on from a green young horse to what she is now; an absolute strength of power and speed.  Serene is a heavy mare, in bone and weight, and can be very hard to trim down without a few extra weeks dedicated to her fitness before the season starts.  But her heart is just as big and typical of the S Family – nothing seems to bother her. She is extremely cool minded, loves the game, loves riding off and for such a large mare she has an exceptional speed that is often hard to beat.

In 2012, Serene was one of four horses, all by Nabinabah Rockafella, that were loaned to Dick Doolin for the autumn high goal season. He played her at Ellerston and the Dudley Cup plus various other Hawkesbury tournaments. Dick loved her, nearly as much as Blitz – in fact the two big black mares were sometimes confused by others when he played them.

Every time James comes off the field on Serene, he’s smiling. Her reliability and strength in the game gives him so much confidence on the field.

Serene was a part of James’ Tamarang Club Team of Ponies in 2009. She also won Champion Club Pony at Tamarang polo tournament in 2012 and Champion Australian Stock Horse at Wirragulla polo in 2013.

Barninedot SAHARA (191070)

DOB: 20/09/2005

Sex: Mare

Colour: Bay

Height: 15.2hh

Sire: NABINABAH ROCKAFELLA – HSH

Dam: Barninedot SERENITY

Sahara is a lovely big-framed mare following the footsteps of her two older full sisters, Sophia and Serene.  She is a kind and very easy mare who is a bit of a favourite around the stables.  Typical of the S breed, she was late to develop her athleticism, but she has now proven herself and could be played by absolutely anyone.

In 2012, Sahara played her novice season and was a part of Robert’s Champion C Grade Team of Ponies at Goondiwindi polo.  With a few other mares now retired, she is now in James' main string alongside Serene.

Barninedot SIREN (192366)

DOB: 11/09/2009

Sex: Mare

Colour: Brown/Black

Height: 15.2hh

Sire: NABINABAH ROCKAFELLA – HSH

Dam: Barninedot SERENITY

Siren is the 4th full sister out of Serenity and a smaller version of her older full sister, Serene – James’ best playing mare. She was broken in by Rob Frewin in early 2012. With light work in 2012 and 2013, she came back in for young horse chukkas and stick and ball work in early 2014.  In early 2015, she was stick and balled and spent time on the road mustering.

In July 2015, Siren, and 6 others in her age group, were sent to Gys Boonzaaier for several weeks of chukkas and polo on the Northern NSW circuit. She went very well for him and handled the pace with a great calmness. Once she learns to flatten out, as this breed eventually does, she will only become better. She should develop into a powerful polo pony.
