Hustler is the best gelding to come out of his particular age group. He showed signs early on that he was going to be up for the task and he moved into higher goal polo before many of the others his age. He is the type of horse that just improves more and more the further you push him.
He has mainly been played by James, who started off with him in his lower grade games. But it wasn’t too long before he was being placed in his main string, as a sub at first, but then more so just because James has a lot of fun on him. James’ brother, Mick, also played Hustler quite a bit over the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but he is swapped from one to the other as needed, particularly if one is playing in a higher grade that weekend.
In 2012, Hustler was lent to Dick Doolin, along with Blitz, Serene and Bomba, to play the autumn high goal season. Whilst the other 3 horses were much more experienced and some of our best, this was Hustler’s first full year of tournament polo. We thought he had something to offer Dick and we were thrilled to see him play well in the Ellerston and Dudley Cup tournaments plus various others in Hawkesbury region. The best thing about this period for Hustler was that he was pretty green at the start and by the end he and Dick had formed a really good partnership. With Dick being on 4 goals at the time and often the key player in his team, Hustler was pushed in ways he hadn’t before and he took it all in his stride improving tremendously by the end of the season with him. From here he has just kept improving……regrettably he still feels the urge to pigroot, particularly at the start of the season, or if he’s been a bit light on the work that week. In saying that, it’s fairly half hearted, and James just growls at him before he gives up. Once he’s listening, he’s often been James’ horse of the match.
Hustler is a nice type of athletic gelding with a lot to offer. He has a lovely nature on the ground and shows intelligence and ability on the field. He is not for the beginner rider (only because of his pigrooting – just like his mother and grandmother!), but he could be played by any handicap from low goal to high goal with ease. Both James and Mick really enjoy this horse, and we are lucky enough to have two full sisters, Hollyday and Harvest Moon.

Hollyday will definitely be retained for stud after her polo career. Her older full brother, Hustler, is a high quality polo pony who has played extensively on the Northern NSW circuit as well as the autumn high goal season with Dick Doolin in 2012.
Hollyday was broken in by Rob Frewin in early 2012 and had light work for the rest of that year and 2013. In early 2014, she was diagnosed with a ligament injury from running around the paddock in a storm. She required the rest of 2014 off from exercise.
Hollyday is a stunning feminine type of mare that could also excel in the show or hack arena. She is incredibly smart, soft and responsive.
