Blitz is of the first drop of progeny by Rockafella. The best way to describe her is simply ‘Power Bomb’! She was at the top of her league and there were few that could match her.
She was trained and predominantly played by Robert where she was an important contributor to the strength in his A-Grade string. She was loaned to Angus Scott in 2008 where she won A-Grade Champion Pony at Quirindi. In 2009, Adam Tolhurst played her in the final of the Northern Challenge Cup and Angus Doolin played her in the final of the A Grade at the Gunnedah tournament. Also in 2009, she was in Robert’s Champion A Grade Team of Ponies at North Star. In 2010, Blitz won Champion A-Grade Pony under Dick Doolin in the Gunnedah Tournament where he scored 3 goals on her in the final chukka. Also in 2010, she was an integral part of the victory taken in the final chukka (again, under Dick) of the Quirindi Northern Challenge Cup. James has also been fortunate enough to play Blitz on various occasions both on the Northern NSW and Sydney polo circuits.
In 2012, Blitz was loaned to Dick Doolin (along with Serene, Bomba and Hustler) for the period of the autumn high goal season. Dick played her at Ellerston and the prestigious Dudley Cup plus various other Hawkesbury region tournaments.
Blitz was renowned for her massive take-off power, racing speed and her big hitting body strength that had her winning plays time and time again. She particularly shined in the tougher games where she could leave lesser horses in her dust. No matter who was on her back, they would suddenly gain confidence when they rode out for her chukka. We finally decided she had more than proven herself on the polo field and it was time to hopefully get some ‘mini me’ foals out of her. After playing the 2013 season with Robert, we put her to Haydon Zane.

Bellbird is the first B Family mare by Rockafella to retire to breeding. This was due to an uncontrollable eye infection (possibly from a paddock injury) that inevitably saw us having to have her eye removed in early 2011. This came at a time when she was peaking in her polo career and looked to be following in the big footsteps of her superstar sister, Blitz. Bellbird was shaping up to be an extremely fast and agile mare on the field, but where she may have ended up surpassing her sister in that she was incredibly easy. In Bellbird’s 2nd season of polo, she won Champion Club Pony for Robert at Quirindi Polo Carnival. It was in the off season after this that she had her accident……devastating for Robert as he loved playing her, but good news for Bar Nine Dot as we got to breed from her straight away!!

Buffy entered the Broodmare string after her retirement from polo in 2012. She is the youngest of the B Family line of full sisters by Smokey Padre (there were 8 in total). Buffy carries probably the most likeness (besides being chestnut) to their mother, Bavardage, as far as attitude goes. She’s a tough ‘little cookie’ and has so much ability but this wasn’t realised until she had matured and settled into polo. She could still be quite a ‘busy’ mare to play, but those that knew her and knew how to harness this could have an amazing game on her. She was a part of Robert’s A Grade Champion Team of Ponies at North Star 2009. Buffy has proven to be a bit tricky to get in foal….hence she came back into polo work in 2012 when she didn’t breed in 2011. In 2015, Buffy finally had a lovely filly on the 20th December…..my late Grandmother, Beryl (Bisky) Doolin’s birthday. Hence, we named the filly Bisky.

Bea (we weren’t very imaginative with our B name that year!) is probably the pick of the B family broodmares as far as type and performance….she is top shelf in both categories. Robert describes her as up there with his polo career’s best performers. She was extremely athletic, fast and smart. She played in the World Cup Polo 2001, Werribee Park, Melbourne, under the Argentinean team and won Champion Polo Pony at Goondiwindi. She was also a very tough mare which is typical of this breed.

Big Bird was the 3rd born filly of 3 full sisters out of Bavardage and by Wallaroi Smokey Padre (Thoroughbred/Polo bred). Unfortunately, the older two sisters, Baffles and Blush didn’t breed. Whist Big Bird played some polo for Robert, she wasn’t a superstar like some of her sisters, but she was fast……extremely fast! She was built like a thoroughbred and was probably the prettiest out of the B Family broodmares. She had a kind personality, loved people and she was Rebecca’s favourite to do cattle work on when she back home on school holidays.
What ‘Birdie’ ended up being best at was breeding superstars! With Rockafella, she had proven to be our most valuable broodmare.

Batiste was a favourite of Robert’s during her polo career. She was smart and quick with a whole lot of ability. She was a bit of a typical chestnut ‘hot head’ in her younger years, but she grew into a fabulous competitive polo mare when she matured. She would go out with her guns blazing when she stepped out on the field and knew what she had to do.
Batiste has also entered her full retirement after having some lovely foals for us.

Bubbles is something quite special in the B Family. She played awesome polo – she was just a straight forward, easy and reliable mare with absolutely no fuss. She was also Robert and Jane’s youngest daughter, Jessica’s pony club mare. Jessica was riding Bubbles around everywhere at polo, ducking in between all the busy trucks etc. from when the mare was only about 3 years old (and Jessica was only about 9). Bubbles has one of those unflappable temperaments and is still an old favourite to everyone out in the broodmare paddock. She also won a Champion Polo pony prize at Scone.

Brinkley was a type of mare similar to that of her full sister, Bubbles (above); a very loveable character and she matured into a good reliable polo mare. She was a no fuss horse and was pretty tough on the field. When she was broken in the breaker told us that she was probably one of the easiest horses he’d ever worked with……and she just went forward from there. She won Champion Club Pony at North Star in 2000.
