Jay was a fantastic polo mare in all aspects – easy, agile and fast. She is a very nice type with an athletic conformation and has thrown this into her offspring. Robert played her from the mid 1990’s onwards where she was as good as any horse on the field. A career highlight was when she played under the Argentinean team at the World Cup Polo 2001, Werribee Park, Melbourne.

The older full sister of Jay, Jitter was pretty similar in type, if only a bit smaller, but just as easy as a polo pony. Robert had a lot of fun on her playing medium goal to A grade. She was also a great kid’s ‘go to’ horse. Jessica took her to North Star Pony Club one year as well as the local campdraft. She had a quirky character in the stables, probably stemming from her grandmother, Sunshine; we would often find taps turned on and Jitter not in her stall but rather roaming the yards and stealing everyone’s food……took us a while to work it out because she would shut the gate behind her!
Due to years of unsuccessful attempts at breeding from Jitter, she ran as a paddock mate with Nabinabah Rockafella all year round. It wasn’t until the 17th September 2009 that we went out to check the mares and a mysterious ‘extra’ foal was spotted standing next to Jitter. At the ripe old age of 21, we were naturally dumbfounded but delighted that Jitter had been very tricky; a colt we named Jive (gelded). Since then she has had another colt and is now permanently retired from breeding. We would have loved to have got a filly out of her, but at least we have two lovely ones out of Jay.

Jellybean was the oldest of three full sisters. Due to Robert scaling down his polo at the time when Jelly bean should’ve been playing, she was sent to his sister, Jan Gunn, for stock work and droving. Upon return, she was ‘bushed’ and never entered a career in polo. However, upon realising how good Jay and Jitter were at the game, we decided to see how Jellybean would breed.
Jellybean had two foals that survived. A gelding, named Jaffa, who showed good promise in the game and was sold on, through Lance Shepherd, as a 3 year old. Lance updated us through the years with really good reports of Jaffa’s performance. After a few years of not hearing of him, Rebecca spotted him again on the Scone polo fields with the Bennetto family, Scone. Jellybean’s second foal, is one of James’ favourite mares in his A string, Jade.
